A lot of consulting ends with a report. A good report is useful, but it tells you what was true on one day. Three months later the numbers have moved, the people have changed, and the binder is on a shelf.
We built Blackex the other way around. When you work with us, you get a client portal that shows where your business stands this week, what to do next, and whether it's working. Here's what's inside.
1. Your score, and how it's moving
Every Blackex client gets a score out of 100 on the Blackex Operating Index, across eight areas from Financial Clarity to Transferable Value. In the portal you see the score, the band you're in, and a line showing every score since you started.
Every quarter you take a five-minute check-in to re-score yourself. You see progress as a number going up, not a feeling.
2. Your plan, as a checklist
Your 90-day plan doesn't live in a PDF. Your next steps show up as a simple checklist with due dates. Tick one off and we're notified the same moment, so nothing waits for the next meeting.
3. Your weekly numbers, in green and red
Together we pick the handful of numbers that matter most for your business, like margin on finished jobs, days to get paid or close rate. Each week you enter them in about two minutes. On target shows green, off target shows red. If last week is missing on Monday, the portal reminds you.
This is the habit that keeps the gains after a project ends: the same few numbers, the same day, every week.
4. Profit found, and profit captured
Finding a profit leak is half the job. Fixing it is the other half. The portal tracks both: what the Profit X-Ray confirmed you were losing each year, and how much of it you've recovered so far.
It also keeps us honest. Our 3× Commitment says that if the Profit X-Ray doesn't identify at least three times its fee in annual profit improvement, you don't pay the second half of the fee. Here you can see the number we committed to.
5. A monthly report you don't have to ask for
On the first of each month you get an email with your score, your scorecard for the last four weeks, the actions you finished and what's next. You can also download it as a PDF any time to share with a partner, a lender or your leadership team.
6. All the paperwork in one place
| What you need to do | Where it happens |
|---|---|
| Send us your financials and other documents | A checklist that shows exactly what we need, with secure uploads you can drag and drop |
| Sign agreements | Review and sign electronically, with a signed copy kept for you |
| Pay invoices | Pay online by card or bank transfer |
| Ask a question | Messages go straight to the Blackex team |
| See where the project stands | A progress timeline that updates as each milestone is done |
No digging through email threads for the latest version of anything.
Why we built it
I started Blackex to help owners who believe in what they're building. Belief isn't enough, though. You also need to see clearly where the money goes and whether things are getting better. Advice you can't see working is easy to forget. A score, a checklist and a weekly number are hard to ignore.
That's the whole idea: from black box to black ink, and a clear view of every step in between.

You don't have to be a client to start. The free BOI self-check scores your business out of 100 in about five minutes and shows your weakest areas. When you're ready, the free BOI Snapshot turns that into a conversation and a readout.
